The Real Week Of Independent Mac Developer

December 12th, 2006 · Comments · Default

As part of “The Real Week Of Independent Mac Developers” I’ve bought a copy of Tables (€39.00), a fine spreadsheet application for Mac OS X. I’m not sure what other software I’m in the market for right now (I just paid for an upgrade for CSS Edit a few days ago).

I’m happy to buy shareware [...]

December 11th, 2006 · Comments · Default

I don’t own a Wii. But as of today I do own a Wii Remote (and a nunchuk). And I’ve had a lot of fun using the Wiimote.framework to hack up this app:

Tiilt.mp4

This screencast shows a simple Quartz Composer composition being manipulated by the Wii remote. If there is interest I’ll put the source online.

iSight Trick NOT a Security Flaw

November 14th, 2006 · Comments · Uncategorized

Surrounding these posts have been many comments from people worried about the security implications of this functionality. And of course once the story hit digg.com all the idiots came out [...]

Second Hand Smoke

October 30th, 2006 · Comments · Uncategorized

So ‘Disco‘ (you know, that Disc burning program that does a fraction of what Disk Utility does but actually costs money) is now available as a public beta.

One of the most controversial “features” of the program is the fact that the main window actually smokes when a disc is being burnt. Poking inside the bundle [...]

I would like to thank…

October 29th, 2006 · Comments · Default

Cripes.

I just won Ironcoder. I now join the esteemed ranks previous winners: Lucas Eckels, Gus Mueller and Mark Dalyrmple.

A big thank-you to Mark for hosting and judging Ironcoder. As we’ve learnt over the previous contests, judging Ironcoder is a tough and time consuming job (although Lucas had it easy). And coming up with interesting APIs [...]

Mac OS Custom Icons and subversion don’t mix

September 20th, 2006 · Comments · Default

I had some big trouble with subversion today. I had upgraded to subversion 1.4 on both client and server a few days ago and today something went tits up with the repository on the server. I wont go into more detail here until I’ve reproduced and isolated the problem but suffice to say I deemed [...]

August 17th, 2006 · Comments · Default

Daniel Jalkut of Red Sweater infamy has released FlexTime, a Mac OS X timer application. Of interest to me is that FlexTime might well be the first released Mac OS X application to make used of my Toxic Progress Indicator Cocoa Widget, as seen in the following screenshot:

Obligatory WWDC Wrap-Up and Leopard Analysis

August 16th, 2006 · Comments · Default

Everyone else is doing it so I figure I ought to.

This was my seventh WWDC and was definitely the most social one I’ve attended by far. I met a tonne of people (mostly guys from #macsb who I’d known virtually for almost year or so) including a lot of developers whose work I really respect.

Buzz’s [...]
