OH my god... The zx81... Now that brings back some memories... that horrible touchpad keyboard... I started with zx81 but i have to say that computer really put me off because its keyboard, I was only 12 at the time... I didnt really start learning until I got my commodore 64.. although I remember buying the programming magazines so that i could copy the programs from inside them to see what they did... Syntax error on line 10... Fix, run again - syntax error on line 20, fix run again, syntax error on line 30... lol... thank god technology has advanced so much since then... I get Parse errors now :)

"I always get a kick out of programming, there’s something about it that just nourishes my mind."

Does this include the creation of 'workflow' components for broadband installation software? (ha-ha)

"Kind of like how travel is said to broaden the mind, I think learning (or at least dabbling) in a lot of different languages broadens a developer’s mind."

You're so, so right about that.

Do you still have any of the old games or programs you wrote? I wish I had mine, but everything was on floppies that are long gone now. Curse the transience of physical media!

Similar background here - I was always intrigued by the QL (first 68000 based machine) though. And it's funny to see the Transputer architecture coming back in (Cell/Core). They were right - that we couldn't just keep increasing clock-speeds. Just 15 years too early.

You should take a look at the GCSE IT course books - a whole page / exercise for 'Closing Internet Explorer'. The curse of 'relevance'.
