iSight Trick NOT a Security Flaw

November 14th, 2006 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

Over the last couple of days there have been a plethora of posts about web pages with embedded QuickTime movies accessing a Mac’s iSight camera. Surrounding these posts have been many comments from people worried about the security implications of this functionality. And of course once the story hit digg.com all the idiots came out [...]

Second Hand Smoke

October 30th, 2006 · 24 Comments · Uncategorized

So ‘Disco‘ (you know, that Disc burning program that does a fraction of what Disk Utility does but actually costs money) is now available as a public beta.

One of the most controversial “features” of the program is the fact that the main window actually smokes when a disc is being burnt. Poking inside the bundle [...]

I would like to thank…

October 29th, 2006 · 5 Comments · Default

Cripes.

I just won Ironcoder. I now join the esteemed ranks previous winners: Lucas Eckels, Gus Mueller and Mark Dalyrmple.

A big thank-you to Mark for hosting and judging Ironcoder. As we’ve learnt over the previous contests, judging Ironcoder is a tough and time consuming job (although Lucas had it easy). And coming up with interesting APIs [...]

Daniel Jalkut of Red Sweater infamy has released FlexTime, a Mac OS X timer application. Of interest to me is that FlexTime might well be the first released Mac OS X application to make used of my Toxic Progress Indicator Cocoa Widget, as seen in the following screenshot:

Tattoo Removal for Cory

June 29th, 2006 · 5 Comments · Uncategorized

Cory Doctorow, of boingboing fame and a longtime Apple Mac user, is switching from Mac OS X to Ubuntu Linux. He also has an Apple logo tattooed on his right bicep. I’d like to help Cory remove what will surely become a source of embarressment from his body. I’ve started a dropcash account to help [...]

iMeem

January 27th, 2006 · 4 Comments · Default

I wasn’t really impressed with the new iMeem buzzword enabled chat application until a bunch of us from #macsb poked under its hood and saw Mono sitting there. It looks like the first non-trivial (correct me if I’m wrong) Mono application has shipped for Mac OS X. And what’s more it looks good. It looks [...]

Software that SUCKS (but doesn’t have to)

January 26th, 2006 · 16 Comments · Default

This is a list of software that is otherwise extremely useful but is let down by a really poor installation procedure. I’ll be updating the list as I come across more software that almost gets it but lets it self down with a shoddy or unncessary installer. Feel free to contribute to the list by [...]

iRoster 1.0b12

September 9th, 2005 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Another year, another iRoster release.

You thought development on iRoster was dead. Think again! This version adds more features than ever before and fixes more bugs then you would believe.

Well - actually it runs on 10.4 now and the preferences all work now I think.

Upgraded to ExpressionEngine 1.3

July 6th, 2005 · No Comments · Uncategorized

I’ve upgraded to ExpressionEngine 1.3. Painless upgrade so far. Capchas in comments don’t work (but that might be because of my server relocation last week). I’ve disabled capchas and enabled comment moderation (I rarely get comments anyway - linkings on del.icio.us/ are more common). The new posting page crashes OmniWeb when you flip from tab [...]
